Lakin, 2LT Milton H.

Born August 30,1840 in Newcastle, Ohio. Entered service as a 1st Sgt. at age 23 sometime in the second half of 1863. Captured as a 2nd Lt. at the Battle of Franklin, TN on November 30, 1864. Imprisoned at POW Camp in Andersonville, GA. Survived Andersonville and was paroled to Vicksburg, MS at the close of the war. Survived the explosion and sinking of the Sultana steamboat on the Mississippi River above Memphis on April 27, 1865. 1,169 died and 963 survived that maritime disaster. He moved to Kansas sometime between 1870 and 1880 and moved to Texas sometime between 1880 and 1900. He died in Houston on March 25, 1921. According to his death certificate and postwar Census records, he was a farmer. One son is buried at Grandview Cemetery in Pasadena, Texas. - Bobby Dover
