Willis B. Conner
Passed away peacefully in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 13, 2017. Bill was born in Bloomington, Illinois to parents Leora Martha (Floyd) and Willis Benton Conner, Jr. on December 22, 1924. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Richard Floyd Conner and his son, Jeffrey Evans Conner.
Bill graduated from Shortridge High School in Indianapolis in 1942 and honorably served his country in the US Army Air Corps. He graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana and was a brother of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.
In 1952, Bill married the love of his life, Katherine Ruth Kercher. Bill and Katie celebrated 65 years of marriage this past March 21st with family and friends. They were members of Trinity Episcopal Church for over 50 years where Bill served as a vestryman and on other various committees.
Bill had a rewarding 42 year career in petroleum marketing, sales and management retiring in 1989 as Executive Vice President of Rock Island Marketing Company where he grew the brands Golden Imperial and United Oil. Upon retirement Bill started a second career in real estate, joining FC Tucker and specializing in residential and condominium homes. He retired as Vice President of the Sycamore Group in 2009. Bill was a past president of the Indianapolis Petroleum Club and a director of the Indiana Oil Marketers Association; a trustee of the Kiwanis Foundation; a member of the Indianapolis Board of Realtors, the Indianapolis Service Club, the St. Vincent Hospital Advisory Board and the 8402 Corporation, the Indiana State Student Assistance Commission and a recipient of the Governor's Award, Sagamore of the Wabash in 1988.
Bill is survived by his wife, Katherine Ruth Conner; and his son, Willis R. (Rick) Conner (Penny); his grandchildren Gregory R. Conner (Lisa) and Amy S. Overturf (Weston) and the light of his life, he was "Papa" to his six great grandchildren Blake, Bryce, Halleigh, Drew, Brody and Reese.
The family is very appreciative of the wonderful care and compassion provided over the past 9 years by the nurses and staff of Marquette and his "extraordinary" personal caregivers.
