Dessie D. Campbell

92, of Indianapolis passed away on October 18, 2017. Dessie was a lifelong resident of Indianapolis. She graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1942. Dessie was a dedicated homemaker until her youngest son Chris was self-sufficient. She then started working for L.S. Ayres as a Sales Associate in the Women's Fashion Department at Glendale Mall. Her career lasted for 20 years. Mom always set a good example as a smart, crisp, well-dressed team member. She had a great collection of colorful scarves to go with her outfits.

Dessie was a very social person. She and several of her high school classmates stayed in touch for over 70 years. Dessie was also close with her cousins and spent time going to "Coffee Pops", and shopping with them. The telephone was a very useful tool for her.

She also loved attending her grandchildren school events, birthdays, and graduations. The Music of the 40's and 50's were always playing on her radio and CD player. Dean Martin and Liberace were her favorites. She was also an avid reader. You could always find something on her bookshelf that was interesting. Dessie was a kind and giving person. She touched many people. Dessie will be missed by all of her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dell Barker and Lavena DeMoss Barker, brothers, Harold and Robert Barker, son, Gary Earl Barker, husband, Robert E. Campbell. Dessie is survived by her sons; Steven J. Campbell (Jean) and Chris E. Campbell (Stacey), grandchildren, Darren (Kirsty) Campbell, Kyle (Laura) Campbell, Jennifer (Andy) Maixner, Ryan (Melissa) Campbell, Sara (Roddy) Heinicke and eleven great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Crown Hill Funeral Home, located at 700 W. 38th Street, Indiananpolis, Indiana 46208. Burial to immediately follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
