In Loving Memory of Howard "Sonny" J. Majors III

Howard “Sonny” J. Majors III, 61, of Indianapolis, IN, returned to his heavenly home on July 17, 2017 surrounded by loved ones after a hard fought battle with cancer. Sonny was born to the late Howard Majors Jr. and Edythe Wright. He was the oldest of his 3 siblings, Thomas, Jeffrey, and Cheryl Majors. He was blissfully married to the love of his life, Estrella, for 23 years. Their union brought about a blended family full of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his children, Howard Majors (Brenda), Brandon Majors, Jerry Lopez (Jennifer), Tolby Lopez (Jordan), and Anita Fries (Andrew). He was “Papa” to his grandchildren, Colin, Malia, Jayden, Jolisa, Maya, Leslie, Johanna, and Sonni. Sonny graduated from Broad Ripple High school, class of 1974. His life’s work was healing and caring for his patients as a surgical physician’s assistant, specializing in cardiac surgery for 32 years at Methodist Hospital and 9 years at the Heart Center of Indiana. He transitioned later in his career to utilize his acquired skills at Maquet, a medical technology company. Sonny was devoted to the Lord and was an active member of his church, St. John the Forerunner Orthodox Church. He found joy working around his home and taking care of his yard. He was known to enjoy traveling and vacationing with Estrella and family. He could be found spending summer weekends jet skiing at the lake or rooting on the Colts during football season. His family will miss his Saturday morning pancakes and his smooth dance moves as he grooved to his favorite Motown hits. Sonny will be remembered fondly for his quick wit, fantastic sense of humor, and booming laugh. His kind heart and selfless spirit will be remembered by all those who had the privilege of knowing him. He exemplified what it is to be an honest, hardworking, and loving family man. The world was a better place when he smiled. A visitation is scheduled for Friday, July 21 from 4-7pm at St. John the Forerunner Orthodox Church at 1421 S. Blaine Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46221. A requiem will follow the visitation. A funeral service will take place on Saturday July 22 at 10am also at St. John’s followed by the burial at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis. Flowers may be sent to St. John’s (see address above). Monetary donations can be made to the Melanoma Research Foundation at “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful.” 2 Timothy 4:7
